In 2006, Chris along with Kurt Wulfmeyer wanted to create a more streamlined company to better focus on the Artist and Architect's unique needs and began KC Fabrications, Inc. Chris lives in Dutchess County, New York with his partner Christine and their dog Willy.KURT WULFMEYER-Founder
In 1992 Kurt Wulfmeyer graduated BFA in sculpture and began working for artist Dale Eldred as an assistant. After Eldred's death in 1993 Kurt became a fabricator for the internationally acclaimed artist Alice Aycock where he worked for many years building and installing monumental public sculpture projects. While working with Aycock on her mechanical complex pieces, Kurt steadily became involved in every aspect of public commissioned sculpture. When he started at AYC LTD. Kurt began drafting and building presentation models, eventually this was expanded to the mechanical design and fabrication, until finally he managed the crews at installations around America. In 1992 Kurt graduated MFA in sculpture and moved to New York with his wife, sculptor Rhonda Hennrich to set up their studio in Brooklyn, New York.
While Rhonda completed her graduate work in New Jersey, Kurt ran the foundry at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn. After working at Pratt for several years the family moved upstate where they had two children, Gretchen and Koby. Kurt soon began working as a fabricator at one of the largest art foundries in the United States located Beacon, New York. While working in the foundry over many years Kurt moved from fabricator to head of fabrication then on to head of sales and finally to co/director with future KC partner Chris Powers. While working together Kurt and Chris gained a unique experience, building, managing and installing one of a kind and often art historically significant works.
The main change in direction Kurt and Chris took while managing was to build a new client base made up of architects and artists who's work was challenging the boundaries of material and process. When KC was formed in 2006 the company immediately began working with some of the biggest names in architecture, curtainwall fabrication, construction and the art world.
